Ennismore was expanding across Europe with new hotels opening in Barcelona, Florence and Edinburgh. Each hotel needed a website for its restaurant. Working as the sole designer, I designed all five websites using the same system while giving each restaurant its own identity.
Overview
Ennismore is a hospitality group that builds lifestyle hotels and restaurants with strong personalities. Their portfolio includes The Hoxton, Mama Shelter and Mondrian. Each new restaurant needed a website that gave customers the essentials: food and drinks menus, opening hours, booking feature while feeling like an extension of the restaurant itself. They also wanted the websites to feel part of the same group while each keeping its own identity.
System Thinking
Every restaurant needed the same core information. So to save time, I built a modular design system: reusable components like headers, hero sections, menus, events, timetables, address blocks and footers, each adaptable to a different brand. The components stayed constant across all five sites, with variants added only where a restaurant needed something different.
Applying the brands
Once the structure was agreed, I designed the five websites, following each brand’s guidelines. A few elements had to be reworked to fit the web (a couple of the palettes were built for print and didn’t pass contrast checks). Every website shared the same structure but each kept its own personality.
Patatino
Patatino is a lively Italian restaurant inspired by the Amalfi Coast, offering playful decor, theatrical service and shareable dishes. Patatino is located in the Hoxton Hotel in Edinburgh.
Lora
Lora is based at the SLS Hotel in Barcelona. The restaurant blends authentic Middle Eastern and Mediterranean flavours with a contemporary twist.
Alassio
Alassio is an Italian restaurant located at the Hoxton Hotel in Florence, specialising in grilled fish and seafood. Inspired by the Italian Riviera, the menu features top Italian ingredients and vibrant, celebratory service.
Bar l’Anxova Divina
Bar l’Anxova Divina is an informal tapas bar that celebrates Spanish art and design and specialises in Catalan cuisine.
Cosmico
Cosmico is a rooftop bar in Barcelona, serving cocktails, bites and poolside beats. It’s set across two infinity pools, with panoramic views of the marina and skyline.
Final outcome
All five websites launched on schedule. The client can now extend the system themselves and build the next restaurant without having to rebuild from scratch.
