AMI is the global training platform for Allergan Aesthetics where practitioners learn and get certified on injectables like Botox Cosmetic. Over the years it had aged, and the experience no longer matched the quality of the training inside it. I led the UI redesign and rebrand, giving practitioners a cleaner, clearer and more premium place to learn.
Overview
The Allergan Medical Institute (AMI) is the global learning platform for Allergan Aesthetics, where practitioners build their skills and get certified on injectables like Botox Cosmetic before treating patients. It’s trusted by doctors and nurses around the world but the experience had started to fall behind. I led the UI redesign to bring it back up to standard.
The Problem
As more courses were added over the years, the platform started to show its age. The information architecture had grown cluttered, making content hard to find, while the design felt dated and clinical. Most importantly, it was hard to track your progress on a platform built around certification.
The Process
At studio Bttr, I led the UI redesign as part of a small team, working closely with the Product Design Director, a UX designer and Allergan Aesthetics’ own engineers. We built in stages, testing and validating each design before moving on. I designed every surface of the interface, from the dashboard and course and event listings through to the curriculum pages, and looked after the design library.
Outcome
The platform is cleaner, clearer and more premium. Practitioners can now find the right course, work through it and see their progress at a glance, while a consistent visual language keeps everything holding together as it grows. It’s a good example of taking something dense and specialist and turning it into an experience people genuinely want to use.
